Kevin’s career began age 17, with a weekend job in the retail food sector in his local Lothian and Borders Co-op. He was mainly on the check-outs and behind the kiosk so from this point forward understood the importance of customer interaction.
His commitment and dedication saw him promoted to Store Supervisor aged 19 and around this time the store was taken over by the UK wide Co-op Food.
In 2003 he was asked to join a Trainee Manager programme, which he successfully completed and in 2004 was appointed Store Manager at the Dumfries Co-op, heading up a team of 12 staff.
He was there for 8 years, then switched to the Annan store and then to the Langholm store. During this time, he also worked as a Support Manager where he provided holiday and sickness cover along with troubleshooting at other stores in the region.
Whilst customer service underpinned his role, he was also responsible for orders, stock control, rotas, cash, branch reconciliation, leakage and wastage.
In 2016 Kevin then switched out of this sector completely looking for new challenges and different aspirations. His brother-in-law Stephen Hughes already working at DFS Caskets helped him to make the switch and his career took on a whole different dynamic.
For 5 years he got to grips with all the manufacturing processes but particularly in the spray shop where he fully understood the importance of a superior finish, which DFS Caskets had become recognised for.
2021 saw the Jukes Group takeover and saw Kevin with his customer focused background, extremely well placed to step up to a customer facing role dealing day to day with clients and order processing.
Early in 2022 Kevin was promoted to Customer and Logistics Lead where he works today interacting with existing customers and always looking for new ones. He stands for quality of the products and customer service and prides himself on what the DFS Caskets team achieve.
