DFS Caskets History
DFS Caskets is Established
DFS Caskets began trading in Coventry, where five generations of family members were themselves Funeral Directors. Setting up in a small unit, Frederick Smith, his son David and their team begin to supply coffins and caskets, and build the DFS Caskets name and reputation with customers.
Frederick Smith Retires and the move to Scotland is imminent.
Before retirement Frederick and his son David decide to look at moving the business up to Annan after several visits and holidays in this part of Scotland. Initially they start operating out of an outbuilding at Elms House, whilst the Coventry factory continues to operate for a further 12-18 months.
Coventry Production Base Closes
Coventry unit closes as the customer base and the manufacturing of all DFS coffins and caskets has successfully moved to Annan and Elms House.
DFS Growth & Expansion
DFS outgrows the outbuildings at Elms House and starts operating from a unit at The Nurseries on Stapleton Road in Annan and quickly needs to expand into a further 2 units at the same address as the business continues to grow.
DFS Moves to its current site on Stapleton Road in Annan
The strategic move of DFS from Coventry to Annan took ten years of careful planning and with lots of prior research. David was now fulfilling his dream which was always to move away from his competition in the Midlands and up to Scotland where he realised the quality of his products would be better received and valued.
30 years of Business
DFS Caskets celebrates 30 years of business in the coffin industry. The quality of their coffins and their attention to detail being recognised by funeral homes far and wide.

New Brand, New Brochure, New Website & New Uniforms
DFS Caskets – ‘probably the best made coffins in the UK’, as we have said is not some throw away remark or marketing spin. It’s what we stand for and makes us feel proud. Our new brand, new brochure, new website and new uniforms makes us feel even prouder still.
Environment
All our coffins are suitable for cremation and burial purposes. Timbers and timber products used in our manufacturing processes are carefully sourced from managed, sustainable resources where management and replanting are government supervised.
Wherever we can, timber waste is re-used, and chemicals used in our wood finishes are processed to extract the base chemicals for use in the paint industry. We only use lacquers, wood finishes and application methods that fully comply with the latest regulatory requirements set by the Environmental Protection Agency.
We strive to re-use packaging and keep our own to a minimum. The Jukes Group believes that the environment is important to us all and with conscientious manufacturing practices, we can ensure a cleaner, safer world for generations to follow.
